Ft. Worth Texas
This is a live, in-person Law of Self Defense LEVEL 1 Class presented by Attorney Andrew Branca in Ft. Worth TX, being held on Thursday, April 6, 2017, 9:00AM to 4:00PM, in conjunction with the USCCA Expo 2017. This class includes a box lunch provided by the venue at no additional cost. (NOTE: Unlike a typical LEVEL 1 class, this class is not state-specific, because attendees will have come from all 50 states. Instead the legal principles discussed will be illustrated using the laws from varied states, with an emphasis on states that take differing approaches to the same legal issues.)
This class is being graciously hosted by USCCA, and is taking place in the Sheraton Fort Worth Downtown Hotel, directly across the street from the Ft. Worth Convention Center in which the USCCA Expo is taking place in the days immediately following this class. (IMPORTANT: This page provides details on registration options for the Law of Self Defense LEVEL 1 Class ONLY. If you wish information about the USCCA Expo itself, you must visit the USCCA Expo web site, by clicking here.)
Law of Self Defense LEVEL 1 Class
This ~6-hour class is an in-depth, professional-level education on the on the law of use-of-force (self-defense, defense of others, defense of property), delivered in an informal and accessible manner. All legalese is translated into plain English while losing none of the technical detail, making the class suitable for attorneys (who may earn CLE credit for attending, see below), self-defense instructors, and the general public. Questions are answered as long as necessary to ensure that every portion is thoroughly understood.
Through this class you will learn how self-defense laws are applied in the real world to real people in real self-defense scenarios, and potentially facing real criminal and civil liability. This class will teach you how prosecutors, defense attorneys, and judges view self-defense cases, and in particular what encourages prosecutors to bring charges and seek convictions, and conversely what factors discourage prosecution and mitigate one’s vulnerability to conviction and civil liability.
The last hour or so of the class is devoted exploring how specific tactical choices and defensive decision-making can contribute to a personal legally-sound self-defense strategy, incorporating your new understanding of self-defense law and how it is actually applied by the legal system. The goal: teach how to stay well within the bounds of the law of self-defense as possible without in any way diminishing one’s ability to win the physical, and as well as the legal, battle.
To register for this class, select “REQUIRED: LEVEL 1 Class Registration: Ft. Worth 170406” in the right sidebar of this page, then select any other desired options including CLE (see below for descriptions of these options) or a printed-and-bound copy of the presentation slides, and once all your choices are made click “Add to Cart” and proceed to checkout.
A detailed syllabus is provided below, and many reviews of past classes can be viewed at the Law of Self Defense Seminars page.
Other Class Options
Once you’ve indicated your registration in the ticket form below, there are several additional options you may consider, each of which may also be selected in the ticket form at the bottom of this page.
OPTIONAL: CLE (+$99.99). For attorneys, this class will be pre-accredited for CLE for many of the states from attending attorneys practice, typically in the range of 4 to 6 hours of general CLE credit hours (the precise calculation varies by state). For many states we will have arranged for pre-accreditation, and the others will require attorney self-reporting. If any attorney who pays for this option is denied CLE upon self-reporting, this payment will be refunded in full. (To our knowledge CLE has never been denied in any jurisdiction.) (Note that this CLE option INCLUDES a printed-and-bound copy of the presentation slides, which otherwise sells separately for $29.99.)
OPTIONAL: Add presentation slides (+$29.99). You may pre-order a printed-and-bound copy of the ~350-400 presentation slides (printed six-to-a-page), and have this provided to you at the start of the class. We strongly encourage this, as it facilitates note-taking, but it is not required. We do not bring extra copies to the class, so if you want a slide packet on site you must pre-order here no later than April 1, 2017. (Note that if you selected the CLE option you will already receive a printed-and-bound copy of the presentation slides.)
PRE-REGISTRATION and PRE-PAYMENT is REQUIRED for ALL classes. We encourage early registration by offering a 20% discount for those who register at least 30 days prior to the class. Classes routinely sell out. We do not guarantee a seat unless you have pre-registered and pre-paid. We DO often have to turn away people who simply show up without having pre-registered/paid. DON’T BE THAT GUY/GAL.
