Critique of “Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story”
Few events have been as shrouded in propaganda, myths, and outright lies, as has the death of Trayvon Martin and the subsequent trial and acquittal of George Zimmerman, who justified his killing of Martin as an act of lawful self-defense.
Because of my expertise and interest in self-defense law, I made the effort to watch every moment of the trial, including all the pre-trial hearings, as well as to review the entire body of evidence in this case, and I wrote about the trial extensively at the time.
As a result, I bring a uniquely informed perspective to the truth of the death of Trayvon Martin, and the level of legal expertise necessary to shine a light on all that is false propaganda, myth, and lies around this case.
“Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story” is a six-episode documentary that begins airing on Monday, July 30, 2018, that purports to tell the “true story” of Martin’s death and surrounding events. Perhaps it will, indeed, tell the true story, but given that I’ve virtually never heard the story told in a truthful way, I expect the documentary to be ripe for a professional, well-informed legal critique.
What We Need & What You Get
Given my already heavy workload, however, I can’t reasonably commit the time effort necessary to view and critique the six-episode documentary unless there is substantive public interest in such a critique. Accordingly, I’ve chosen to gauge the level of interest by raising funds to monetize my critique of the documentary.

That DVD will be provided for FREE to the $30+ tier folks, for an additional $10 to the $20+ tier folks, and an additional $20 to the $10 tier folks (in all cases plus S&H, usually $7.95).
This campaign is intended to be of interest to folks who care about truth, the law in real-world application, and about self-defense and the consequences (both positive and negative) that follow from having used force in self-defense.
Risks & Challenges
There is effectively no risk to funding this campaign. If the minimum $1,000 is not raised, all money will refunded. If we exceed $1,000, I personally commit to conducting the review/critique and producing the promised “prizes.” In the unlikely event that I fail to meet that commitment, all money will be refunded.
Other Ways You Can Help

I talked with Don West today, who as you know was one of George Zimmerman’s lawyers at his trial, and he’s very much aware of this initiative, and is open to participating. What we’ve tentatively explored is the two of us meeting up at a mutually convenient location, and essentially filming both of us discussing the trial in person–we could even do it as a live webinar, perhaps, so folks can ask questions in real time.
To make it worth the effort, however, we’d need to be able to cover the travel cost of us meeting up, filming and producing the video of the meeting, and so forth, plus I’d like to be able to offer Don a really exceptional single malt Scotch in appreciation for his contribution.
Accordingly, I’m setting another stretch goal, given that we’re already not far from hitting our first stretch goal of $10,000–we’re currently just under $7,000.
If we hit $15,000 before the last episode of this “crockumentary,” I’ll commit to convincing Don to meet up, have an extensive real-time discussion of the Zimmerman trial from each of our unique perspectives, and make that available at least as a live event and and an online stream. That content would be made available for free to all contributors at the $30 level or above, and contributors below $30 would just need to bump up to $30 to be included.
So, that’s the new goal, folks: $15,000.
Campaign Update: STRETCH GOAL ANNOUNCED!
Wow, folks, we hit our initial goal of $1,000 in funding in less than two hours from launch of this campaign! So, now we are announcing a stretch goal: $10,000. If we hit our stretch goal of funding we’ll also produce a DVD version of our video critique/review to make available as a permanent product for folks to own. That DVD will be provided for FREE to the $30+ tier folks, for an additional $10 to the $20+ tier folks, and an additional $20 to the $10 tier folks (in all cases plus S&H, usually $7.95). Arrangements for payment and shipping will be made to each donor individually after this funding effort has concluded, assuming our stretch goal has been reached. (Obviously, there’s no obligation to order the DVD if you’re not interested in owning it.)
